Water vs Gravity. (day 2)

022_20

I live in the Waterfall capital of the world. So the other day I was admiring one of them along with 45 other tourists. I had my SLR with me, shooting some very cheap 200 sped film. – I think I’m terrible at taking pictures of nature, but on this day I was really keen to take some. – Standing at this waterfall I saw this kid playing at the bottom. With the kid in the picture it makes the waterfall look twice as big or it makes the kid look twice as small. – Regardless I waited for the kid to be in some form of position. I like this cause he is looking down, and I feel like the water fall is looking down on him… Idono.. make your own metaphor.

I got this developed at Wal-Mart, Something I recommend you never do. – I think their chemicals at this particular store were way past expired. Idono, but I usually get processing done at another place where the guy actually cares about his images. Anyways, maybe it was just my cheap film or a collection of both.

Hamilton Harbor

Grabbed up my film gear one night and headed down to the Hamilton harbor to try my hand at some Long exposures on film.

The beauty of having a DSLR handy is that you can find the effective settings that you can use on the SLR so you aren’t clicking and praying that you have the setting correct even after proper light metering and such.

The above photo is a long exposure with 2nd curtain flash on my 60D, of my SLR taking a 3 second long exposure.

The below photo is the photo that the SLR took.

Albion Falls

 steps

Took a crack at some long exposure waterfalls the other day. This is Albian Falls in Stoney Creek/Hamilton Ontario. The waterfall Capitol of the world! – About an hour away from the great Niagra Falls. – I bought a couple ND filters for my 18-55 kit lens on a cheap Chinese photog website for about 10 bucks. – So I lugged my sturdy tripod , film and digital gear down into the valley that is the falls and carefully stepped from stone to stone to try and find a angle that would look good. – Also, learning how to actually us an ND filter. – Turns out, if you put 2 on at once everything turns purple. – maybe that’s just cause mine were really and I mean really cheap.
