Looking Up. (day 9)

IMG_1704

The first thing that any visitor to New York city will do when they arrive is look up.

New York city is built in a grid patter. Except for what seems from a maps perspective, one street. So while walking around you will get random happenings where the normal 90 degree turn gets chopped in half. So, instead of changing the street back in the day. (which I know wasn’t possible) they decided to just build triangle building.

The most famous of these types of intersections is the one and only Time Square. Where broadway street slices its way through the city.

This photo is taken on the south downtown of the island near wall street.

Float. (Day 8)

IMG_3121

Hung out with some friends during a sesh.

Personally, I don’t smoke weed, but I will take any opportunity to photograph events that are frowned upon by society.

Maybe I was new to taking photo’s in this situation, or perhaps I was handling my light well, but I feel that non of my photo’s turned out very good. I was using the 40mm canon pancake 2.8.

I wanted to get some portraits of the guys featuring smoke.

After some serious manipulation in lightroom I decided to post this one.

I really want to practice more with light smoke and faces- check out another blog I did on this same guy with a cigarette underneath a light except on film. CLICK HERE

Back one (day 4)

Tyler –

I go out skating with a group of skaters and they teach me things – I love bringing my camera and shooting high shutter flash. One of the skaters has a fish eye lens and he uses it for filming – I like to snag it and take photos

I tried to be extreme with the photo taking – by sticking the camera in close during the trick-

Water vs Gravity. (day 2)

022_20

I live in the Waterfall capital of the world. So the other day I was admiring one of them along with 45 other tourists. I had my SLR with me, shooting some very cheap 200 sped film. – I think I’m terrible at taking pictures of nature, but on this day I was really keen to take some. – Standing at this waterfall I saw this kid playing at the bottom. With the kid in the picture it makes the waterfall look twice as big or it makes the kid look twice as small. – Regardless I waited for the kid to be in some form of position. I like this cause he is looking down, and I feel like the water fall is looking down on him… Idono.. make your own metaphor.

I got this developed at Wal-Mart, Something I recommend you never do. – I think their chemicals at this particular store were way past expired. Idono, but I usually get processing done at another place where the guy actually cares about his images. Anyways, maybe it was just my cheap film or a collection of both.

Me. (Day 1)

me

I’ve never done anything like this before… actual I’m lying I vlogged my life for 10 days straight once and that was next to impossible. – I have a friend who is writing a blog everyday for the month of October all around one theme – She is an excellent writer and will be famous one day for it. Her name is Aliza and you can read her stuff here. — Anywho, I decided to steal her idea’s of fortune and fame by uploading some of the photo’s that I have kicking around every day this month. – I really truly hope to succeed.

Some will be long. Some will be short, a probably, some will be late. But regardless I hope to upload 30 or is it 31 photo’s over the next month… I guess 30 now because I’ve uploaded this one.. but I Haven’t uploaded it yet I’m still typing in the “new draft” box…

I don’t know

anyways here we go.

The above photo is me. I guess you could call it a selfie. Its on a 8mm fisheye on a canon 60D, a fairley expensive selfie.

Prints.

20140727-214130-78090835.jpg

Blacks.ca had a sale on prints so I decided after being unmotivated to do anything for a while, to go get some of my photos printed. – I have been shooting film for a while now, but to save some money I only get the film developed then scan them on to a cd. And prior to shooting film I either shot iPhone of dslr- so seeing my photos in physical form is something very new to me.

It bring a very big sense of accomplishment on something I love doing. It brings a form of completion. It brings joy.

Thanks for the encouragement I have received from this blog.
And as usual…

May Your Worries Never Faulter Long.

Image

I’m currently on a the last leg of a week long road trip to southern Alabama and back with my mom. My little sister goes to the University of Alabama (Roll Tide!) also on scholarship for NCAA gymnastics and so we jumped in the car to go see her compete at the SEC Championships in Birmingham. In which they won. Roll Tide.

Anyways, It’s kind of a ritual that we stop in Nashville and hit up a bar downtown on either a way there or on the way back. I love taking my camera downtown there. This is selfie of my mom and I. We’ve been in close quarters together for a week, and randomly been living in a log cabin in central Alabama, but are on our way back to Canada and made the stop on the way back.

Never forget where you came from, it will help direct you as to where you are and can go. If you came from nothing, then nothing can stop you. If you’ve come from everything, than everything will try and stop you. May your worries never last longer than your ambitions. May your dreams burn at your chest. May you be happy in your own skin.

Things. Are Looking Up.

Image

East Lookout Trail, Algonquin Park, Ontario, Canada

Ever look up when you are in a forest? It always reminds me of being downtown a major city, like Toronto or New York. The only difference, for me anyways, is that when I look up while standing in a forest, I feel an incredible amount of safety and peace. But, when I look up while standing in the city and admire the skyscrapers, I feel incredibly unsafe and nervous.
